New Media Center
 
The New Media Center is located on the west end of the Carbondale campus in the Communications Building basement. Occupying the south end of the basement, the New Media Center is comprised of 2 classrooms, 2 specialized labs and a general access area. The two classrooms are used primarily by the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts but are available for use by others on when feasible. 
 

Computer Learning Centers
Computer lab 
Information Technology manages four campus Computer Learning Centers. The CLCs are open to all students, staff and faculty with valid SIU Carbondale identification. CLC4 is lcoated in the New Media Center in the Communicaitons Building and is largely utilized by students from the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts. 
 

Journalism Computer Lab
 
The School of Journalism operates four, 20-station computer labs for use by students taking journalism courses. Other units in the college also utilize these labs. All computers have high speed Internet connections and each lab has video projection from the instructor's station and peripherals including printers, scanners, digital cameras and mass storage devices.  
 

Digital Audio Lab
Digital Audio Lab 
The Digital Audio Lab consists of 14 individual Macintosh workstations running the latest versions of Mac OS and Pro Tools. There is also a full-featured recording studio with professional grade microphones, monitors and a sound effects library Students can produce anything from radio commercials to multi-track musical soundtracks for video production. 
 

Digital Video Lab
Digital Video Lab 
The digital video lab in the New Media Center houses 19 Macintosh G4 computers with 17" Apple Studio Monitors and a variety of peripheral devices such as DV and DVCAM video recorders, scanners, microphones, and headphones. Software includes Final Cut Pro IV, After Effects, Photoshop 7, Flash MX, etc. The lab is available outside of scheduled class times for any student working on a digital video or audio project. 
 

Photography Lab
Photo Lab 
The Department of Cinema and Photography operates and maintains a professional quaility Photographic Laboratory with many and varied facets. Included is a large gang darkroom with 14 Zone VI variable contrast black and white enlargers for the beginning classes in Photography. Six individual B/W rooms are avaiable by reservation for our students in advanced courses. The lab houses a 32 inch Hope/Kreonite Color Print Processor accompanied by seven individual rooms with either Chromega 4x5 or 5x7 enlargers. This is also one 10 x 10 Chromega enalrger in a private room for B/W or Color work. Additionally there is a large studio with an assortment of electronic strobe and ARRI tungsten lighting equipment. Last but not least there are two digital photography work stations in the lab. One station has flat bed and film scanners as well as a MGI Solitaire 16xps Image Recorder. Rounding things out the other station includes an Epson 7600 large format inkjet printer as well as a smaller Epson inkjet printer for proofing and smaller output sizes.
