Resources

You don't have to manage the job search process alone. Career services specialist, Beverly Robbins, can assist you with developing a resume, finding an internship, and practicing interview techniques.

Career Counseling
Need help determining what career field is best for you? Then you should meet one-on-one with our career services specialist to assess your interests and skills and learn how these factors translate into viable career options.

Workshops
During the year, Career Services offers workshops, led by faculty members, which offer practical tips on resume development, cover letter writing and interviewing skills.

Hollywood Studies
In the Hollywood Studies program, initiated in the summer of 1995, students from SIUC are placed in summer internships with major media companies throughout the Los Angeles area. Internships are available in film and television production, post-production, development, marketing, casting, scripting, animation, and special effects, as well as in television news and the music industry. The internship base is continually expanding and adding new opportunities for students. Many of the original internships were arranged by the extensive network of SIUC alumni in the media industry in the Los Angeles area.

Chicagoland Studies
The Chicagoland Studies Program provides MCMA juniors and seniors with practical experience through summer internships with alumni in the Chicago area. Last year students interned with companies such as Aviatrix Publishing, Inc.; Big Shoulders Digital Video Productions; Crain' s Chicago Business; Foote, Cone & Belding; Freeman Pictures; MediaMark; Paddock Publications; Panavision Chicago; Silent Partners; Motorola Cellular Infrastructure Group; and Wickes Corporation. In addition to the on-site work, students meet weekly at various downtown Chicago locations to attend seminars featuring professional speakers who address industry topics.

Volunteer Program
Student volunteers increase the visibility and potential of Career Services. The role of a new career peer program is to support new initiatives that develop students' job search skills and encourage employers to actively recruit MCMA students. From designing promotional brochures to hosting job search workshops, the career peers provide valuable assistance and feedback for the program.

Website
MCMA students will soon have access to jobs and internships from the comfort of their residence hall, apartment or library workstation for quick and easy access.
